Children & Youth
At First UMC Laurinburg, we are dedicated to living out our baptismal vows to nurture one another in
living the faith of the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races. All of
our staff and volunteers who work with children and youth at First UMC have passed a background check
and have been trained to adhere to our church’s Safe Sanctuaries Policy.
We minister with and to the children and youth in our church and in our community in various ways:
-
Acolytes & Crucifers – children serve as acolytes & crucifers,
lighting the altar candles & carrying in the cross during Sunday morning worship.
- Children’s Sermon – we invite the children to come forward during worship for a brief Children’s Sermon shared by the pastor or a member of the congregation.
- Children’s Church – after the Children’s Sermon, children are invited to attend Children’s Church, a worship experience just for them with our children’s ministry team.
-
Easter Egg Hunt – in the spring, children stay after church and share a meal
together before the annual Easter Egg Hunt on The Hill.
- Vacation Bible School – we collaborate with our friends at First Baptist
Church for Vacation Bible School. We take turns hosting VBS. Children from both churches and our
community attend. Adults from both churches teach, lead and serve together at VBS.
- Blessing of the Backpacks – in August we have a Blessing of the Backpacks during worship for students, teachers and school staff as they begin a new school year.
- Trunk or Treat – in October we host a Trunk or Treat for children in our church and in our community.
- Advent-ure Scavenger Hunt – in November, we get ready for Advent and Christmas with an Advent-ure scavenger hunt.
-
Christmas Pageant – during the Christmas season, children, youth and adults
participate in an annual Christmas Pageant.
Coming this fall…Girl Scouts! A new Girl Scout troop will be meeting at First UMC on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays at 5:30 pm.
